Feng Shui In Your Bedroom Part I – Guidelines For Your Bed

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Proper nutrition, exercise, and a good night’s sleep are the hallmarks of good health. And while today’s busy schedules don’t always permit us to exercise and eat as healthy as we’d like, we can’t go for very long without sleep. Applying some simple feng shui principles in your bedroom can help. But first, you must understand feng shui and what makes a good feng shui bed. Feng Shui is the Chinese art or practice of positioning objects like buildings and furniture, based on a belief in patterns of yin and yang and the flow of positive chi or life force.

The most important piece of furniture you’ll own throughout your life is your bed. Most of us underestimate the importance of our beds and how intimately and intricately beds are connected to our personal energies and the quality of our relationships. There are three things that make great feng shui in your bedroom.

Invest In A Good Mattress

First, you should invest in a good mattress. The better you sleep at night the better your health during the day. With a new mattress, you’ll create your own positive chi energy. But when you buy a used mattress you can’t guarantee you’ll get good feng shui energy from the previous owner. A mattress is a big investment and the last thing you want is negative energy coming from your mattress.

Invest In A Good Headboard

The second component of having a bed with good feng shui is having a good headboard. As you drift off to sleep your body is extra busy using energy to repair itself on many levels. Just as your back needs support from the back of a chair when you are sitting for extended periods of time, your head subconsciously needs good backing, protection, and support that can only come from a good headboard. Ideally, a headboard should be solid and made from wood or upholstered wood that’s both solid and gentle.

Invest In A Bed With Good Height

The third essential component of a bed with good feng shui is good height. Having your bed at a reasonable height above the floor level allows for balanced feng shui energy. There should be 18 inches of open space between your mattress and the floor. By the same token, a bed that is too high won’t give you the feeling of being “grounded.” In fact, you may feel like you’re sleeping in the air. It’s important that you feel the effects of earth energy and if your bed is too high this can’t happen.

A bed that’s too high can also make you feel insecure about being able to easily plant your feet firmly on the ground. What you’re striving for is a happy medium where you’re not blocking the space underneath your bed but at the same time not sleeping on some floating magic carpet either. This happy medium allows energy to circulate around your body while you sleep.

Nothing compares to a good night’s sleep. A quality mattress, headboard, and bed frame to raise your mattress to the proper height all play a role in good feng shui and a good night’s rest. When you sleep better, you feel better. Your health is better and your relationships are also healthier. Investing in a good mattress is an investment in your health.
