This set of 8 A modification plates is a fantastic invention and it fits two primary applications.

What kind of beds do these plates work on?

Beds with headboards only and beds with headboards and footboards.

Does its matter what the bed is made of?

No, it can be made of wood, metal, brass, iron, wicker etc. The important thing is that the headboard and or foot board has pre drilled holes that allow a frame to be bolted up to it. For attaching old style headboards to frames. Slots permit vertical and horizontal adjustment.
