10 Ways to Protect Your Self When Buying A Mattress And Box Spring?

  1. Don’t get caught up in the brand name mattress game. Leggett & Platt and Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company make most of the spring units found in mattresses today. The Fabrics and foams being used to upholster them are a often sourced from the same mills and manufacturers making mattress companies nothing more than assembly plants. Less recognizable names are usually as good or if not better for a fraction of the cost.
  2. Check out a dealer’s reputation through multiple sources. Excellent sources could be asking friends, family members, or co-workers who may have already bought from the retailer. See where they have bought and what kind of buying experience they had. You can also contact the (BBB) Better Business Bureau
  3. Do your homework take good notes, but pay attention and learn about what you’re buying. An educated buyer makes better choices. Compare construction in addition to the prices so that you are certain to be comparing like or similar mattresses.
  4. Shop competition that carries the same or similar products to assure you are getting not only the best price but also the best quality and guarantee for that price.
  5. Don’t make the common mistake of buying and then educating yourself afterwards. You’ll probably catch a bad case of buyers’ remorse, or worse yet realize you made a horrible decision.
  6. Pay with a major credit card this gives you the best protection in the case of an unsettled dispute with a company that is not listening or ignoring your claim of unresolved or uncompensated transactions.
  7. Financing gives you some protection as well as long as it is not an in house finance program. This means they don’t use and outside company for their financing.
  8. Paying by check is OK, but the ball will be completely in your court if a problem arises. A good thing about checks is that is can be presented at some stores as additional source for proof of payment.
  9. Make sure you have the paid receipt when you leave the store. Do not lose it. File the receipt away with other important receipts it proves you are the original purchaser if a service problem arises.
  10. Always read the fine print and be sure to read what you sign such as receipts or contracts making sure that you fully understand what it is you are signing otherwise for all you know it could be a four year enlistment in the military.
