Memory Foam Overview
Visco-Elastic Foam mattresses mold into your unique body shape to provide comfort. It is an open-celled, body-heat and body-weight sensitive material originally designed to relieve the pressure of G-forces experienced by astronauts in flight maintaining proper blood circulation. The visco-elastic properties allow it to automatically sense and respond to your body weight and body temperature and then mold to your body's exact shape and position.
Traditional spring mattresses often use low-grade polyurethane foam and cheap padding on springs. As a rule of thumb, the heavier the foam, the more it will hold up over time. Make sure the foam in your next mattress is at least a 2.5 pound foam or heavier. This adds significant life and resiliency to this type mattress allowing the foam to return back to its original shape. Another plus to memory foam disturbance is significantly reduced from one person to the other. Some complaints of sleeping hot have been raised with memory foam mattresses. Companies have worked hard to deal with those issues and many now offer quilted breathable covers. Lastly core foams make the biggest difference in overall support and durability. Materials commonly used for this are high density, high resiliency, and Omalon Foams. There is a difference in these materials be sure to ask your sale associate to explain.
All memory foam mattresses have significant advantages over the typical mattress and box spring and should be considered.
