Leaders by Example

Our RSS Feeds: Full | Summary

I find Twitter fascinating and recently I was having a blast playing with a tool called Twitter Grader. Recently I scored an 85 out of 100 and wanted to know how I could improve my score. I continued my adventure by running numerous popular and not so popular usernames. Finally after a while boredom set in and began to wander what else I could do with Twitter Grader. So I started gazing at the drop down menus only to find a world of information at my fingertips. Like any grown boy I began to play around with it and here is what I learned.

I discovered one drop down menu titled Twitter Elite. My interest was piqued and my curiosity grew only to locate something called Top Users by Location. So I searched various cities including my hometown Arnold and a couple others. Having a beginner level of SEO knowledge I began to input a variety of spellings like St. Louis and then Saint Louis, which gave differing results while Missouri and MO shared identical search results.

I had to tell someone, so I went to Twitter with my experiment and hoped other geeks like me would find it interesting. I wondered if anyone was as geeky as this small town mattress store guy looking to get noticed.  Would anyone even give it a look?

When I ran the test for “MO” I got the same results as “Missouri”

After posting the last of my 3 tweets at 7:57am my first response came from @schlafly. Within 2 hours I was honored to have two of the people on the very list I put up following me @thescottbishop @threefourteen (and a gigantic thank you by the way). However my experiment wasn’t complete and I wondered if any of the Social Media geeks would pick it up. One almost did a wife, blogger, self proclaimed geek, and power mom @robynsworld called me out in a respectful way as we would expect from any Twitter Elite Leader by tweeting.

“@STLBeds Interesting how you have multiple tweets of different people as the “top 5″ – don’t spam us, just interact instead.

Now robynsworld didn’t thrash or trash me, she merely treated me with respect and explained to me what the social media rules are. Thanks to classes like @TechLH teaches, I hope I was able to stay with in those unwritten guidelines. I was also able to recognise the different SEO search results for St. and Saint and the same results for Missouri and MO that went over the pros heads and not mine for a change.

Thank you everyone. I benefit and learn from your many educational links and blogs about SEO and Twitter and other forms of Social Media so keep the tweets coming and would appreciate your follow!
