The Blame Game, Are Those Mattress Sales Real?

Everywhere you look stores are have Mattress and Boxsprings on sale for 50 percent, 60 percent, even 70 percent off.  Are those mattress sales real and genuine? In our last blog “Mattress Sale Price or Deceptive Money Saving Claims by Mattress Stores?” We gave a very good example of what we believe to be a false claim of saving by a mattress store. Today we look at who is to blame for these misleading ads?

It seems there is plenty of blame to go around. In the ad it says:

11-inch Memory Foam Queen Size Mattress
· Compare at: $1,130.90
· Our Price: $350.00
· Sale Discount: $35.00
· Your Price: $315.00
· You Save: $815.90 or (72%)

It looks as though you are saving a whopping 72 percent or $815.90. After looking at the mattress ad, and really paying attention to what it said, we realized the mattress company is offering us a Sale Discount of a lousy $35.00. They wanted us to believe we were saving $815.90 at 72%. After reading the nearly one page of lawyer jargon explaining what “Compare at” means we realized that was not the price they were selling this 11inch memory foam mattress for.

It’s definitely not a perfect world out here and people are looking to get rich while making money at our expense. 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, and these people do not take a vacation. It does not matter whether you are in a mattress store or on the Internet. We need to be aware of that every minute of every day.

I am one who believes that we are personally responsible for our own actions. We need to remember no matter how tempting that mattress ad may be; we have the option to say no and not buy it. 

Ask ourselves those basic instinctive survival questions.

Is this mattress deal to good to be true?

Will the mattress sale end on Saturday.

Will there ever be a mattress sale again?

Isn’t it possible that a competitor of this store could have a mattress sale in the future?

 Am I really saving $815.90 at 72% or am I just saving $35.00 at 10%? 

Everyday mattress stores try us and temp us with there money saving offers.  The only way we can be taken is if we want to believe that we are saving all that money. To believe that a mattress store is giving us $815.90 off the memory foam mattress, instead of $35.00 off is where their trap lies. It is only then, that wanting to save so much money over rides our good common sense, and then our survival instincts fail us. Will you let yours fail you?

So who’s to blame the mattress stores, the customers, or both?
