You are correct. A water bed is not costly to operate.

In summary: Hints to save money concerning waterbed heater expenses.

Waterbed Heater Temperature Control: Turn it down slightly. Too cold can cause backaches.

Add a Polyurethane Foam or Memory Foam Topper. (Do not lie topper pad directly on the vinyl mattress)

Invest in quilted zippered encased mattress pad. (Example Land and Sky Nightwear Covers)

It pays to buy quality (Solid State Heaters and Softside Waterbeds.) They are more efficient to start with.

Lower the temperature a few degrees when you are away for long periods of time. (Vacation)

Simply make the bed or pull the blankets back over the water mattress.

Use thick waterbed comforter or bedspread for extra insulation.

Bedroom temperatures in basements or in upstairs can affect waterbed heaters because temperatures can be higher or lower than average.

Thanks for your comment,

My house is all electric. When I bought my new waterbed the electric bill did not even go up. It is so nice to climb into a warm bed when its cold! I got rid of my waterbed a few years ago and missed it so much we decided to buy another one.
